Loads of Stairways To Heaven (will the torture never end?)

Stairway to Heaven. Bleurgh.

I should explain. When I was in bands in my youth, and we used to look for new guitarists, I had a "No Stairway" rule. It was a bit like The Gong Show, I suppose. I'd ask guitarists what they could show me, and if they played that terrible song, I'd shout "Next!" and throw a hissy fit. I did that a lot.

So you can imagine what I thought when I came across this particular brand of living hell - a page with thirty-nine fifty-six sixty-four sixty-five one hundred-and-one versions of... I'm sorry. I can't bring myself to type it, let alone italicise it.

Personal favourite? The Hard-Ons' version. Why? It could be me playing it. Enjoy!

Many (most?) of these versions were commissioned of Australian artists by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's show, "The Money Or the Gun", hosted by Andrew Denton. I reckon the best of these was by The Whipper Snappers. The Hard Ons version is pretty cool as a cliched song goes. Interestingly, the Far Gone Beauties were a bluegrass band who did loads of rock cliche covers a long long time before Hayseed Dixie hit on the idea.
